To get the best out of coaching it is important that it fits within some clear personal development plan linked to yours and the organisations needs. You need to have a clear idea what you want to get out of coaching so that your coach can work with you to achieve your objectives.

Coaching is less likely to be an effective solution if:

  • coaching is being used to replace management responsibility for supporting, developing and improving individual or team performance
  • the individual does not recognise the need or benefit and is not "bought into" coaching
  • coaching is being used to manage someone out of the organisation.
